  • What is the purpose of Isom’s Chapel?

Our vision is: To be a lighthouse for Jesus Christ in the community. We will provide a place to encounter God through worship, small groups and encouraging fellowship. Through the Holy Spirit, we will identify, develop, encourage and equip believers to carry the ministry of the local church into the world.

 

  • When was the church founded?  How did the church begin? 

Isom’s Chapel was established by Emanuel Isom in 1846. The church was organized under the direction of John Nichols, a Methodist minister, who lived in Athens at that time. The church met in Emanuel Isom’s cabinet shop until the first log church was built in 1852. Emanuel Isom donated one acre of land and the logs to build the first church building. The present church building was constructed in 1965 with Pastor Marcus Long. The Family Life Center was added in 1999 under the leadership of Pastor Barry Dunn.

 

  • What does your church believe?
    1. there is one God, eternally existent in three persons; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
    2. the Holy Bible is the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, indestructible and authoritative word of God. (Psalm 119; John 10:35; II Timothy 3:14-17; Hebrews 4:12).
    3. in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His personal future return to this earth in power and glory to rule a thousand years.
    4. in the rapture of the Church at Christ’s second coming.
    5. the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ.
    6. regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation.
    7. the redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer.
    8. in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit, by whose baptism the believer is empowered as a witness for Jesus, and is also enabled by His indwelling to live a life of holiness.
    9. in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation.
    10. in standing to sing: “After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: ‘Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb’ ” (Rev. 7:9-10).

 

  • What are the services like?

Our 10:30 a.m. worship service is a blended service held in our church sanctuary. We include confessions of faith, singing and music from the sanctuary choir as well as contemporary worship led by our praise team. A message by Pastor Eddie Gooch follows.  

The 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening Bible study is a time when the men and women split into separate groups for a time of fellowship and study of God's Word.  

Our 7:00 p.m Wednesday evening Bible study is also offered in the church sanctuary. Led by our pastor, the study includes Bible reading, study and discussion.

 

  • What about my children?

We have active and exciting children's and youth programs! We offer infant and toddler nurseries and preschool classes for the smallest ones. We offer Sunday School classes and Children’s Church for elementary age children, and we offer Jr. Youth and Sr. Youth classes for the Jr. high school age and Sr. high school age. Firesides, which are youth Bible study/social meetings, are held at different homes and are announced periodically. (more...)

 

  • How long does the service last?

Typically, a service lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

 

  • What kind of music do you have (hymns, worship music, contemporary)? 

Our 10:30 a.m. worship service has a beautiful blend of hymns, praise and worship and contemporary music. (more...)

 

  • Will I be singled out if I visit Isom’s Chapel? 

You will not be singled out by being asked to stand and introduce yourself. And, no nametags!

 

  • What should I wear? 

Come as you are! Dress ranges from casual to professional.

 

  • How do I get to the church?

Isom’s Chapel is located on Moorseville Road in Limestone county approximately 5 miles east of Athens. The church is approximately 2 miles north of Hwy 72 and about 1 mile south of Nick Davis Road. (map)

 

  • What about small groups?

Active participation in small groups develops closeness and offers individuals the opportunity to grow and learn in their relationship with God. Isom's Chapel offers many small group opportunities, such as: Prayer Groups, Sunday School, Women's Ministries, Men's Ministries, Singles, Youth, Sr. Adults and Missions. (more...)
